Get To Know Fuel Quality Aspects – What Is Best Fuel For Your Mercedes-Benz?

Fuel quality is crucial for a vehicle to always keep running in an optimal level. Saving few dollars at gas station by filling with low octane fuels is a temptation. However, for high performance Mercedes-Benz SUV, you may be doing harm than good. Therefore, give it the right type of fuel to hamper its engine and other parts from performing the best.

Compression ratio

Compression ratios of Mercedes Benz Cars lie between 10.5:1 and 15.5:1. It means the engine places pressure of 10 to 15 pounds on the air and gas cylinder.

Vehicles equipped with 4-stroke engines use pistons and internal combustion to turn crank shaft. When crank shaft turns, motion gets created, which turns car tires. This is a part of compression process that ensures car movement.

A cylinder of gas and air is compressed down in a tight space. Electricity jolt is sent through the cylinder by spark plugs. An explosion is caused, which is converted into mechanical energy used by the engine to propel forward. It is called compression stroke.

Compression ratio represents how much gas car cylinder holds at top of stroke in proportion to the amount it holds when compressed fully by piston. High compression rating means more energy is obtained from the fuel.

Octane ratings

Octane rating indicates the level of compression fuel can deal, before ignition. High octane figure means fuel ignites more speedily and allows driving faster.

Mercedes AMG, Modified Mercedes-Benz models, and Mercedes-Maybach include high performance engines, so they use high octane fuels. If low octane fuels get used then engine knocking occurs, which can be damaging to the cylinder heads, pistons and performance. Engine knocking means expensive repairs in a short time.

Best fuel for high performance engine

Old and classic Mercedes-Benz SUVs were not designed for high speed enjoyment, so they can use fuels rated 89 and less.

For high performance engines use fuel with highest octane rating. Never use anything below rating 91, so as to avoid pricey repairs.

Diesel engines

Diesel is little different from gasoline. Cetane is used as rating unit. It measures how fast the fuel ignites and burns. High numbers reveal quick fuel ignition. It means better fuel efficiency.

Mercedes-Benz SUV owners need to look for fuel with 55+ cetane ratings.

Diesel is available in two grades. The 1-D burns faster and is better for professional high speed vehicles like race cars. The 2-D is good for non-commercial cars to be driven in normal conditions.
